Dr. Tomoyo Hamana Wins Young Investigator 1st Place Award

Dr. Tomoyo Hamana, a research fellow at CVPath, has won the Young Investigator 1st Place Award for her abstract “Lipid-Related Polygenic Risk Score and Its Association with Coronary Artery Calcification.” She presented her research at the National Lipid Association (NLA) Scientific Sessions in Chicago. The study aimed to evaluate the association between lipid-related polygenic risk scores (PRSs) and histological features of coronary atherosclerosis, particularly focusing on coronary artery calcification. Lipid-related PRSs were significantly associated with vulnerable plaque phenotypes but not with advanced stages of calcification. The genetic predisposition to vulnerable plaque and advanced calcification is partially overlapping but distinct, highlighting the potential value of lipid-related PRSs as a predictive tool for sudden coronary death beyond traditional coronary calcium scoring.
