Dr. Virmani Attends Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions (SCAI) Meeting

Last week, Dr. Renu Virmani attended the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions (SCAI) meeting in Montreal, Canada. She was featured in a roundtable discussion with Dr. Elazer Edelman (Harvard/MIT) and Dr. Martin Leon (Columbia Medical Center/CRF) on the past and future of interventional cardiology, from molecular engineering to bedside innovation. Dr. Virmani also gave a Founder’s Lecture entitled “What I Have Learned from Examination of Cases of Sudden Coronary Death.” In this presentation, she discussed the progression of human coronary atherosclerosis, vascular calcification, the features of ruptured plaques and plaque erosion, and the important role of macrophages.
